This article breaks down the top 10 rarest CryptoPunks and their sales history.
After Beeple’s record $69.3 million NFT sale in March 2021 at Christie’s, CryptoPunks lit the world on fire and became the de facto number one NFT project until it was later edged out by Bored Ape Yacht Club.
CryptoPunks was released for free by Larva Labs in 2017, and is the type of project that’s coveted for its place in history.
Modern projects, even the big ones like Bored Ape Yacht Club, need to work to stay relevant and maintain its top position. The blockchain is immutable, and while Curio Cards was eventually recognized as the first art NFT project on the Ethereum blockchain, Punks are still one of the historical projects that truly put NFTs on the map.

CryptoPunk #6089 is an Alien Punk and is one of 9 of that type in the entire 10,000-piece collection. It sports an earring and a knitted cap and has not been sold since it was minted 5 years ago.

CryptoPunk #635 has never been sold and is one of just 9 Alien punks in the 10,000-piece collection. It also sports regular eye shades and a sweet bandana. It is not currently available for sale.

CryptoPunk #5822 is another Alien Punk with a bandana but doesn’t have any other attributes. The Alien Punks are the rarest in the collection, and this particular Punk sold for a whopping 8,000 ETH on February 12th, 2022.
The value at the time of the sale was $23.7 million.

Another Alien Punk, this one sports a bald head with a simple headband.
It sold for 4,200 ETH on March 11th, 2021, which was $7.58 million at the time. In August 2021, there were two offers on the punk for 38,809 ETH ($126.19 million) and 35,000 ETH ($111.16 million).

CryptoPunk #2890 is another Alien Punk and sports a purple cap. It was sold for 605 ETH ($761,889) on January 23rd, 2021, and has not sold since.

We have . . . another Alien Punk with a Do-rag and small shades to its attribute count. It sold for 10 ETH on July 4th, 2017 which was just $2,690 at the time.

I think you get the drill here — the nine Alien Punks are the rarest in the collection and here we have one with a Cowboy Hat and an earring.
This Punk has not sold since being claimed despite seeing offers of over $6 million on multiple occasions.

This Alien Punk sports a knitted cap, earring, and medical mask (eery foreshadowing to COVID) and was sold on July 10th, 2017 for 8 ETH ($1,646 at the time).
It has not sold since, even after receiving an offer for over $2 million.

The 9th and final Alien Punk on the top 10 rarest CryptoPunks list sports a forward cap, small shades, and a pipe. It was sold on March 11th, 2021 for 4,200 ETH or $7.57 million.

CryptoPunk #8348 is the rarest of them all. It’s not an Alien but has quite the attribute list: buck teeth, top hat, big beard, classic shades, a mole, and a cigarette.
Despite 6,039 males in the collection, the attributes of this one put it in the top spot of rarity.
It last sold for 85 ETH ($18,102) on May 20th, 2020, and is owned by seedphrase.
